Sortd-AI uses Tools and MCP to connect tools, review permissions, test actions, and monitor tool calls. Use this guide when setup does not start, an MCP Server connection fails, a tool is not available, or a tool call returns an error.
Start on the app's MCP Server screen and check the current status before changing anything.
Generated mode requires all of the following before you can select Enable generation:
The base URL is the address Sortd-AI uses when a tool runs. The Backend API token is attached to every tool call as a Bearer token. Configure your API to accept and validate that token. When you generate a new token, copy it immediately: Sortd-AI does not show it again after you dismiss it with Done, I ve copied it.
If the URL or token is missing, Enable generation remains unavailable. Save the URL, generate or regenerate the token, and then try again. If you regenerate the token, update your API configuration with the new value.
For an external MCP endpoint, open Bring your own URL, select Configure URL, and check that the endpoint URL and credentials are correct. Use Change URL later if the endpoint has moved. A connected endpoint shows Endpoint configured; an unconfigured one shows No endpoint.
If the connection test fails, check that:
After correcting the configuration, test it again. If the connection is no longer needed, select Disable.
Tool approval and activation are separate steps. Review the tools first, then select Approve for each tool you want Sortd-AI to make available. You can also select multiple tools and approve them together. Use Block for tools that should not be available; a blocked tool can be reactivated later.
Tools can have these statuses:
A generated MCP Server cannot be activated while tools remain pending review. Resolve the pending tools, then select Activate. If activation fails, return to the tool list and check that every tool needing review has been approved or blocked.
The default approval policy automatically approves Read safe tools and does not automatically approve Write safe tools. Destructive tools require review. You can change the default approval policy for generated mode, but an individual approval or block remains the direct decision for that tool. Review the tool's safety classification before approving it.
You need admin access for setup, activation, and tool approval or blocking. Tool call history is available to users with access to the app, but only an administrator can change the MCP Server configuration or tool decisions. If an action is unavailable, ask an organization administrator to complete it.
If a tool is approved but a call fails, open the Tool call log on the MCP Server screen. The log shows the time, tool, status, latency, ticket, and redacted arguments. Use the status filter to compare Success, Error, and Dry run results, or use Filter by tool name to find one tool's calls.
Use the result to narrow down the problem:
For generated mode, confirm that Configuration shows the correct base URL and that the Backend API token is configured. For Bring your own URL, confirm that Configuration shows Endpoint configured. If a tool has been blocked, select Approve or Reactivate as appropriate, then retry the call.
Contact Sortd-AI support when:
Include the app name, the affected tool name, the approximate time of the failure, the result status, and any relevant message shown in Sortd-AI. Do not send your Backend API token or other credentials. If possible, include the tool call's redacted arguments and a screenshot of the relevant status or configuration.
